講題摘要：
The alternation between a raised subject and an expletive has been called an effect of the EPP or edge feature. Several empirical observations indicate that the effect does not come from a phi-feature agreement or abstract Case dependency, cross-linguistically. Instead, the effect comes from what is traditionally labelled NP-movement and nominal Merge and Agree operations. The research concludes that categorial operations are in the narrow syntax, which has neither EPP nor edge features.
